Cats in the Cradle, Inc. is a no-kill, all-volunteer, 501(3)© non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, care and placement of feral, stray and special needs cats and kittens.
Currently we are in need of special homes for 5 kitties. These kitties are all very sweet and will make great fuzzy family members, but they do have special needs. Each of these kitties has tested positive for Feline Leukemia.
( Info )
If you do not have any cats, or if you already have a cat who is FeLV positive, please consider adopting one (or two!) of these adorable kitties from our organization. They desperately need homes because our facility is small and as we have to keep them seperate from the other cats they will spend the rest of their lives in a cage if no one adopts them.
There would be no adoption fee for these kitties, you'd just need to fill out a little bit of paperwork (adoption application and agreement) and take your new family member(s) home!
Please email all inquiries to adoptions@catsinthecradlerescue.org.
Onto the kitties:
Domino, Felix and Juno are triplets born on a farm in TN. The family there loved them and the children played with them and held them all the time. They wanted them to have happy homes but could not keep them. They brought them to CITC so we could find them forever homes. These sweet playful siblings would be happy to stay together, or would be happy to each find seperate homes. They are very affectionate and will quickly become a part of your family.

Corrine is a beautiful tabby girl with right green eyes. She wants a home where she will be loved and have some room to play. Her life may be shorter than average due to FeLV, but that doesn't mean she has less love and energy to share with you now.
Corrine: http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis playpet.cgi?petid=9800755
Demi is a loving kitty who had a hard beginning in life. She was found roaming the streets and then when she finally came to CITC and had a chance to find a happy loving home she tested positive for FeLV. Demi is a very friendly kitty who likes to be with people. She would be a bright spot in your life and you in hers if you gave her a home.

Sunday was a long day at PetSmart. I was by myself for a while, and had a young girl helper for a while and L the founder helped me shut down, it just made for a long day. I hate to say that it was a good thing we weren't too busy, but it was.
We had one kitty adopted out. Her name is Velvet and she's the one I talked about who insisted that you pet her. She is a beautiful cat and I know she's gone to a great home.
Sunday was a reminder to me that we have a lot of special kitties that really need loving adoptive families who are willing to give them time to come out of their shells.
Ronnie is an orange (very light orange) and white kitty with golden brown eyes. He wants attention, but is a little afraid of people standing over him to get pets. He loves to be petted and is addicted to gooshy food. He'll be your best friend forever if you open a can of Fancy Feast!
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis playpet.cgi?petid=7874080
JimmyMac is another orange boy, only he's mostly very orange with just some lighter colored stripes. He loves to be petted but he'll need some time in a quiet place before he will become a part of your family.
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis playpet.cgi?petid=10494754
And last but not least is my favorite orange boy, Hunter. Hunter is a big super soft lovable scaredy cat. When he comes to your home he is going to hide under the first piece of furniture he can find, but if your willing to give him some time and some space I just know he will come out of his shell and let you hold him while he purrs and kneads on your arm like he does mine.

I get to go to the big shelter tomorrow and meet lots of new kitties!
*Updated to correct the link for Ronnie.

Sunday was a good day. We adopted out 4 cats, 2 kittens and two adults.
This week I'm swamped so I'm only going to talk about 1 kitty who needs a home.
Please allow me to introduce Chess! Chess is a fun black and white boy. He's playful and talkative and loves to be petted. He hates being cooped up in the kennel when his foster mom brings him in to PetSmart for adoptions, so he complains loudly about it for a while and then relaxes and takes a nap. He likes to play with the stick with feathers on one end and does fine with the other cats. If you're looking for a lot of fun and attention from a cat please consider Chess.

The kitty named Jerry that I posted about earlier this week that I was so concerned about because he was stressed got adopted! I'd posted his story on the Atlanta communities here on LJ and Kittycentric adopted him today. I'm so excited that he's found a good home!

I arrived on Sunday & helped setup. Shortly after that a woman came in with her cat. She says she adopted him from CITC about 5 years ago but can no longer keep him. This cat looks like a purebreed Himalayn. He was sadly declawed before she adopted him. She returned him because she says he's following her other cat around & peeing where he goes. It could be that he just needs to be the only cat in a household, or it could be that he has a medical problem. We don't know yet. It was so sad for me to see this cat. He's got what will be beautiful chocolate/coffee & cream colored fur (We should name him Latte!) but he's got matted fur all down his chest & his sides look like the lady just cut out chunks of his fur when it got matted. She says he won't stand to be brushed. I call BS to that. He's front declawed! If you scruf him & brush him all he can do is complain at you. I brushed him for a little bit while he has in the cage. He let me do it for a good 5 minutes before he got upset & that was in a strange place, after a car ride, surrounded by strange cats & strange people. *grrr*
Then just as that lady was leaving another lady came in with a cat she says she adopted from CITC 3 years ago but she's "moving and can't take him with." He's a beautiful light orange short haired tabby. He was sweet when I petted him but was afraid of his surroundings so he was hissing at the other cats. I couldn't get any details from the woman about why she couldn't keep him and she did seem somewhat sad. At least both the ladies brought the cats back to us like they are supposed to if they can no longer keep them.
In addition to the two cats that were returned I also found out that a third has run away. Lola was adopted out on a trial basis about a month ago. I was calling to check in & see if they decided to adopt her & the man told me she ran away 2 weeks earlier! They put up flyers & checked with the local shelters, but have had no luck. I wish he would have called us the day she got out. We could have put a trap out & tried to lure her home with gooshy food. She's probably long gone now. Poor Lola. At least she's fixed and has all her shots, but still. :(
We did adopt out one kitty named Marion. She was brought to us about 3 years ago by a very elderly lady who could no longer take care of her. She spent a long time at the big kennel because she was too afraid to leave her cage. Recently she started venturing out of her cage so S brought her up to PetSmart to show her off. Well, it worked! She found a very nice couple who wanted a companion for their other cat who is also about 4 years old. I think she'll fit in very well there.
This entry got really long so I'm only going to talk about 1 kitty who's up for adoption, Jerry. His name is Miles on the Petfinder site, but we call him Jerry. He was adopted out from CITC about 5 years ago when he was less than 1 year old. The girl that adopted him has since had a kid and can no longer keep Jerry due to alergies. Again, at least she brought him back to us. The sad thing about Jerry is that he's so scared he's shedding. He's actually lost patches of fur on his back from the stress of being away from the only home he ever knew. He's a sweet big black cat, he liked it when I held him but when in the cage he just hid under his bed. I picked him up, put him on the bed & started to pet him & he purred & purred. He even rolled over & let me pet his tummy. I just know he's a super sweet kitty & his hair will grow back when he's calmer, but it's going to be hard to find him a home. If you have a place in your heart for a sweet loving boy kitty & don't care if he looks a little patchy right now, please consider adopting Jerry!

We had two kitties adopted on Sunday, Prince and Chipper. They are both very sweet cats and I think they will do very well with the families who adopted them.
This week I met JimmyMac (think 60's music), a pretty little orange tabby boy who's really scared. He just curls up in a tight little ball in his cage right now, but if you pet him he purrs a lot and closes his eyes in relaxation. I hope to spend more time with him next Sunday.
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis playpet.cgi?petid=10494754
I also got to spend some time with Sally Mae, a pretty tortie girl who likes to talk and has the second softest coat I've ever petted. My baby Ria has the softest fur, but Sally Mae comes a close second.
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis playpet.cgi?petid=10493393
And last but not least, a plea for help. One of our volunteers found a dog on the road. He'd been hit by a car and needs surgery to save his leg. The surgery will cost $1000. CITC desperately needs monetary donations to help cover the cost of this surgery and once he's healed we will help find him a home. If you can donate, or are interested in adopting Boston please check out the link below:

Wow, Sunday was BUSY! We had 6 kitties get adopted. It was a great day! Of course I met a couple new kitties who I have to tell you about.
The first is Lil' Kit. She's a cute Tortie and is pretty small. She sat on the cat tree and let me pet her and then when I turned around to pay attention to another kitty she batted and played with my hair. :)
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis playpet.cgi?petid=10494748
Next is Nancy Drew. She's a great big tabby who loves attention. She especially loves to play and goes nuts over those sticks with feathers on one end.
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis playpet.cgi?petid=9961904
And last but not least is Hunter, the pretty orange boy. He really needs a special home. A woman tried him out, but he was so shy he just wasn't right for her home. He was too scared. A single quiet person would be the best person to adopt Hunter. He just needs a little time in a nice quiet home and he will love his adoptive parent with all his heart!

Sunday was quiter than normal, as it was Easter and many stores here were closed all day or at least closed early. (Target was even closed!!!)
We did have two adoptions! Lola went with a very nice young man and his sweet girlfriend on a trial basis. I hope this is her forever home. The other adopted kity was Jackie. She is a sweet calico, about 2 years old, who'd been up at PetSmart way too long. She went home with a couple and their two girls. Jackie's calm but playful personality will be great for them!
Hunter's info has been updated with some adorable notes:
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis playpet.cgi?petid=9841388
The other cat I'd like to spotlight is Taylor. She is all black and is about a year old. She loves people but isn't really fond of other cats. She will bond with her adoptive parent and give them lots of love. She was left in a carrier on a businesses doorstep.

Sunday was a nice day and it was very busy at the PetSmart, I guess people were excited to get out and about after the bad storms.
We did have one kitty adopted, a little gray tabby girl named Frenchie went home with a nice lady.
Usually I talk about a few cats that are still up for adoption, but this week I'm only going to talk about one. This lovable kitty is going to be my pet project. I want him to find a good home fast!
Hunter is a beautiful orange tabby. He has long fur that is super soft and he's so pretty. He's very afraid up at the Petsmart and he just cowers in a corner of his cage. I wanted to spend some time with him to try and make him more comfortable there so I picked him up. Hunter velcroed himself to me and started purring and kneading on my arm. He wants someone to love him so much that it brought tears to my eyes. He would be a wonderful lap kitty and will love the person who adopts him with all his heart. If you're in the area and want to adopt a cat that will be more than just a pet but a real part of your family, please consider Hunter.

Today was a very nice day at PetSmart. We had LOTS of people looking at the cats and had 3 adopted!
Larson, my favorite from my last visit was adopted along with Abigail to a family with a little girl. Macon also found a new home with a family with a little girl!
We still have lots of adorable kitties, my current loves are Caroline, Salli and Patricia.
Caroline is a 4 year old tortie with only 1/2 a tail. She loves to be petted. She's listed as small, and I guess she is in length, but she's like my Ria and has swollowed a bowling ball. :)
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis playpet.cgi?petid=7433095
Salli is a young girl, probably about 8 months old now. She loves big dogs! She'll love all over the glass when they come up to the cages. She's sweet and playfull too.
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis playpet.cgi?petid=8792139
Patricia was a little upset with me for moving her from her comfy inside cage to the outside ones and putting her on display, but before I moved her she was so cute. She chirrped at me to get my attention and wanted to be petted and talked to. She was adopted and her family kept her for a year, but something happened and they could no longer keep her. Luckily they did the right thing and brought her back to CITC. She's such a recent addition that she's not up on the petfinder site yet.

I had another great Sunday afternoon comforting, playing with and petting the kitties at the North Point Petsmart. We had 1 adoption while I was there, a girl named Missy. I found that a sweet cat I'd met last weekend named Amber was also adopted. I thought she was ready to go to a forever home when I met her last weekend. She just had that "feel". I'm glad she found someone!
This Sunday I met lots of other cats and as usual a few stood out to me.
Larson is about 2 years old and is a tabby with a white tummy and socks. He's FIV positive but is otherwise perfectly healthy. He would be great for an empty nester as he wants to be held and loved on all the time. He burrowed into my arms and purred at me the whole time I held him. He's such a love. People are afraid to adopt an FIV positive cat because of shortened life expectancy, but there is really no prrof that FIV kitties live shorter lives as long as they are in homes with people who love them and take them to the vet for regular check-ups. Salem is an all black long lanky soft kitty. She's enjoys being petted and likes to play too. She will even entertain herself a lot of the time. We had in a cage with a round bed and she would nap for a while then get up and chase her mouse in the bed going around in circles. She stood out to me because she'll eat from your hand. I'd take a piece of food between my thumb and first finger and hold it out to her and she'd daintily take it from my fingers. She even ate out of the palm of my hand. My own babies won't eat from my hand!
http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis playpet.cgi?petid=10285760
And last but not least is Macon. She's a tabby with white socks like larson, but is smaller than he is. She was fun because she loves to have her tummy rubbed. She would roll over on her back and paw at the air to get you to pet her tummy more. Her other neat feature is that she was born without a tail! A nice lady was really considering adopting Macon. I hope the nice lady decides to take her home soon!

I hope the nice lady decides to take her home soon!

I went to the PetSmart at noon and met the lady with Cat's in the Cradle that I'd talk to on the phone. She's very nice and showed me how they organize things. They have a pretty darn good setup there. They even have room in the kennel area for the cats to run free with each other and play.
I helped out with an adoption, and a total of 2 cats were adopted in the 4 hours I was there. That's a very good Sunday in comparrison with my past experience.
I met Abigail, who's a very sweet lap cat type kitty:

Doodlebug, who's a neat combination of playful and calm, she'd play then just plop over and take a nap:

Waffle, who was a recent addition at the Patsmart and was still getting used to things, but was very sweet:

And the sweetest of the bunch was Gevalia, it was her first day and she's only 8 months old so she was scared. She loves to have her tummy petted though and doing that I was able to coax her out of the carrier and into the kennel. She just LOVED to be petted:

I had a good time meeting them and all the other cats and I am looking forward to tomorrow.

Rocky got adopted!!!!
"Several months ago, "Rocky" turned up near the home of a Feral Friends volunteer. He was obviously worse for wear after spending too much time outdoors, but very friendly. After being nursed back ot health, he was a regular PetSmart adoption visitor, very popular but not landing a permanent home. That all changed a few weeks ago, when his charms could no longer be resisted and he found a full-time spot in a very loving home. "

Yesterday I volunteered at the adoption center for Feral Friends (www.feralfriends.org) and met a super sweet cat. If I wasn't already at my limit of 3, I probably would have taken him home. His name is Rocky. He's a big boy, weighs at least 10 lbs, and all he wanted to do was be held. I opened the cage to pet him and he put his paws on my shoulder. I held him for a little and then tried to put him back in his cage and he wouldn't go. He wanted to be held more. My arms were getting tired, so I sat down at the table and put him in my lap. He must have sat there for an hour. It was really noisy because the Richardson Humane Society was there with a bunch of dogs, and a lot of people where walking around the store with their dogs too. He didn't care. He must have been around dogs at some point because a couple dogs came up to me and they sniffed noses and he was fine. Rocky's a big white, black and gray striped cat with medium length hair. He's missing most of his left ear. I imagine some other cat got into a fight with him because he seems too sweet to be a fighter. He reminded me a lot of our cat Harley. If you, or someone you know needs a calming lap cat who's not afraid of anything, please consider Rocky.
